Police are investigating Labour’s deputy chief Angela Rayner following a row over the sale of her council house.
Greater Manchester Police mentioned it was wanting into claims she might have damaged electoral legislation within the early 2010s.
Ms Rayner has accused the Conservative get together of making an attempt to “smear” her and insisted that controversy about her tax affairs was “manufactured”.
Police initially mentioned that Ms Rayner wouldn’t face an investigation over claims she gave false details about the place she was dwelling to the electoral roll. However, they agreed to “review the circumstances” in a letter to deputy Tory get together chairman James Daly final month.
In a brand new assertion a GMP spokesperson mentioned: “We’re investigating whether any offences have been committed. This follows a reassessment of the information provided to us by Mr Daly.”
The unique investigation started after former Conservative get together deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft recommended that Ms Rayner did not correctly declare her primary residency in his e book Red Queen? The Unauthorised Biography of Angela Rayner. This led to claims Ms Rayner might owe capital positive factors tax on the sale of her property, one thing she has denied.
