A preferred Carribean rum has been rebranded over allegations that the title has “hurtful” hyperlinks to slavery.

Spirits producer Maison Ferrand modified the title of its Plantation rum to Planteray rum. Bottles with the brand new title will likely be rolled out globally from this month.

The firm initially promised to vary the drink’s title within the wake of the Black Lives Matter motion following the homicide of George Floyd in 2020.
