Speculation is rife about what chancellor Jeremy Hunt may announce when he units out the authorities’s spending plans in the spring Budget.

In the run-up, most reporting had centered on whether or not taxes would be slashed.

However, stories revealed on Tuesday the chancellor is anticipated to slice 2p from the price of National Insurance as an alternative, after concluding earnings tax cuts would be too costly and danger stoking inflation, which remained frozen at 4 per cent in January.
