Whistleblowers on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are sounding the alarm on a reported 1,300-page draft doc that allegedly justifies a proposed rule that would effectively ban private gun gross sales, in response to a watchdog group.
“The fact that inside ATF sources are blowing the whistle on this draft rule is an indication of what a difficult position it would put the ATF in. ATF agents did not sign up to go after law-abiding citizens for private sales protected under the Second Amendment of the Constitution,” Tristan Leavitt, president of watchdog group Empower Oversight, stated in a press launch Wednesday.
The group despatched a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and ATF Director Steven M. Dettelbach on Wednesday morning to demand solutions and paperwork about whistleblower claims that the company is making ready to suggest a rule requiring background checks for many, and even all, gun gross sales.
The letter particulars that the group discovered by way of “two sources in the ATF that at the direction of the White House, the ATF has drafted a 1,300-page document in support of a rule that would effectively ban private sales of firearms from one citizen to another by requiring background checks for every sale.”

The letter comes after the Biden administration advocated for stricter gun management, together with in August when the ATF launched ATF2022R-17. Otherwise, referred to as “Definition of ‘Engaged in the Business’ as a Dealer in Firearms,” that proposed rule would amend the company’s rules and incorporate provisions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a gun management legislation signed by President Biden in 2022.

The watchdog reported that the present draft doc is reportedly being overseen by Senior Policy Counsel Eric Epstein, who beforehand labored because the Phoenix discipline workplace’s division counsel in a precursor operation to “Fast and Furious.”

Peter J. Forcelli, retired deputy assistant director of the ATF, told Fox News that he doesn’t necessarily disagree with a rule requiring Americans to go through the federal firearms license process to sell a gun to a family member or friend, but he also noted that “the truth is unhealthy guys nonetheless get weapons.”
“People will now have … an extra step and make the most of a licensed gun seller to make these transactions if this comes into play,” Forcelli told Fox News’ William La Jeunesse. “… We have an issue with violent crime within the nation proper now. We have a variety of people who’re misusing firearms that are usually not being prosecuted. And I believe that this director’s time could be higher served by pressuring these United States lawyer’s workplaces that aren’t doing their job to go on the market and effectively prosecute circumstances involving violent criminals.”

When asked for comment on the watchdog group’s letter, the ATF directed Fox News to information on the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The watchdog group’s letter is demanding records and communications about the plan, including from the White House and Epstein.
