Arctic blast and more snow on its way as temperatures set to plummet

Snow is forecast to fall on Sunday as chilly arctic air from the north retains temperatures hovering simply above freezing throughout a lot of the UK.

Ice and snow warnings are in place throughout northern Scotland, the place motorists are warned to anticipate some journey disruption.

Forecasters say up to 2 inches of snow might fall in some locations by the top of the day.

A separate warning for ice is in place for Northern Ireland on Monday, the place “brisk northerly winds” will drive showers inland.

The mercury dipped to -10.4C in Aviemore, close to Inverness, Scotland on Wednesday and temperatures are forecast to battle to get above 0C throughout a lot of the nation this week.

Highs of 3C are forecast for Glasgow, 4C in Manchester and 7C in London. South Wales is predicted to be the warmest a part of the nation, with highs of 8C in Cardiff area.

Temperatures will then fall to -1C or -2 in most city areas in a single day on Monday.

On Thursday and Friday, forecasters say it can stay extensively “very cold” with the potential for extreme in a single day frost.
