Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, stated Sunday Democrats’ accusations that Texas allowed migrants trying to cross the southern border into the U.S. to drown in the Rio Grande by stopping Border Patrol from accessing the river are inaccurate.
Federal officers and U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, claimed the state was answerable for the deaths of three migrants – a lady and two youngsters – on Friday after purporting that the Texas Military Department had denied Border Patrol entry to the realm to assist six migrants in misery.
“This is a tragedy, and the State bears responsibility,” Cuellar stated in an announcement.
An investigation by the Texas Military Department decided the accusations had been “wholly inaccurate,” explaining the drownings had already occurred by the point Border Patrol requested entry.

“At the time that Border Patrol requested access, the drownings had occurred, Mexican Authorities were recovering the bodies, and Border Patrol expressed these facts to the TMD personnel on site,” the TMD stated in a information launch.
Abbott stated in response to the investigation’s findings that Cuellar and others who blamed Texas for the drownings overlooked key details.

The TMD stated its troopers had been in direct communication with Border Patrol on Friday when it requested entry to Shelby Park upon studying of distressed migrants.
