Bomb-disposal specialists have been referred to as to a suspected explosive system close to a busy A highway on Teesside.

A stretch of the A19 was closed in each instructions, inflicting site visitors jams, after the system was found late on Wednesday afternoon.

Cleveland Police stated the closure was a results of a suspected explosive system, which was taken to a storage to be examined by specialists.

It was reported that the merchandise was discovered on the Ron Perry service station at Elwick Services, based on the Hartlepool Mail.

The A19 had been shut between the A689 close to Billingham and the A179 to Hartlepool, and National Highways had warned of lengthy delays for motorists.
