Chicago to return park to public after using them to house illegal immigrants

The City of Chicago will return 5 parks to the public this week after using them to briefly house illegal immigrants – a transfer that had irked many residents. 

The workplace of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson stated, starting this Saturday, town will “decompress” non permanent shelters from 5 park district amenities. Once all immigrants are transitioned to one other shelter, town’s Park District will start the method of restoring the parks for the public to use.

The mayor’s workplace stated immigrants from Gage Park, the Broadway Armory Park, Brands Park, Leone Park, and Piotrowski Park, might be moved to close by shelters over the approaching weeks, “minimizing disruptions with schooling and work.” 

Mayor Johnson stated he was “proud” of his administration’s efforts and people of different Chicagoans who “stepped up to welcome new arrivals by providing shelter in our Park District field houses at a time when this was clearly needed.”

“We are grateful to the alderpersons and communities who have embraced new neighbors with open arms, and we are pleased that these park facilities will be transitioned back to their intended purpose in time for summer programming,” Johnson stated in an announcement.

The information comes days after the mayor touted town has being “open” and “accommodating” to illegal immigrants. But he certified that the present scenario was “unsustainable” absent federal intervention.

He blamed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for busing migrants to the sanctuary metropolis. Earlier this 12 months, he argued that Abbott had been “attacking” cities run by Black leaders with waves of migrants.

The Republican governor has been bussing illegal immigrants to progressive-run cities for almost two years to draw consideration to the disaster on the southern border.
