A Republican state senator introduced Monday that he’ll run for an open congressional seat representing northeastern Wisconsin.
Andre Jacque of De Pere introduced Monday that he’ll run for the eighth Congressional District seat being vacated by Mike Gallagher. Gallagher abruptly introduced final month he gained’t search re-election after he angered his fellow Republicans by refusing to question Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Former state Sen. Roger Roth of Appleton introduced his candidacy simply hours after Gallagher mentioned he gained’t run once more. The eighth Congressional District consists of the cities of Green Bay, Appleton and Oshkosh and leans closely Republican. Republican advisor Alex Bruesewitz is also contemplating a run.

Jacque was first elected to the state Assembly in 2010. He has served within the state Senate representing northeastern Wisconsin’s 1st District since 2018 and has constructed a fame as a staunch conservative. He doesn’t face re-election within the state Senate till 2026. If he wins the congressional seat he must vacate his Senate place subsequent January when he’s sworn into Congress.
