The Body Shop confirms more than 100 stores will shut for good – here’s the ones closing today

The Body Shop is set to shut practically half of its 198 outlets throughout the UK after falling into administration final week.

The beauty chain can be set to chop round 270 head workplace roles as a part of a heavy restructuring.

On Tuesday, it was introduced half of The Body Shop’s branches could be closing for good, with seven – together with 4 in London – shutting instantly.

Administrators FRP mentioned final week: “The Body Shop remains guided by its ambition to be a modern, dynamic beauty brand, relevant to customers and able to compete for the long term. Creating a more nimble and financially stable UK business is an important step in achieving this.

“The Body Shop has faced an extended period of financial challenges under past owners, coinciding with a difficult trading environment for the wider retail sector.”

The retailer was based in 1976 by Anita Roddick and her husband Gordon and was one among the first corporations to advertise so-called moral consumerism, specializing in ethically produced cosmetics and skincare merchandise.

It comes solely weeks after new homeowners, European non-public fairness agency Aurelius, took management of the enterprise. Aurelius, which specialises in shopping for and turning round troubled companies, secured a £207m deal in November to purchase The Body Shop from Brazilian cosmetics large Natura &Co.

It solely took management of operations formally on 1 January.

The enterprise employed round 10,000 individuals worldwide at the time of the takeover.

Aurelius agreed a deal late final month to promote the firm’s operations in most of mainland Europe and in components of Asia to a global household workplace in a “decisive step towards delivering a strong turnaround strategy” at The Body Shop.
