Former Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn Mosby found guilty of 1 count of mortgage fraud

Former Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby has been convicted of one count of mortgage fraud, after testifying that she unintentionally made false statements on mortgage functions to purchase two Florida trip properties.

The Associated Press reported that the cut up verdict was introduced Tuesday night after jury members deliberated for many of the day, discovering Mosby not guilty on a second mortgage fraud cost.

In November, Mosby was convicted of two counts of perjury by a federal jury after she falsely claimed monetary hardship in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic so as to withdraw cash from the town’s retirement fund. Prosecutors claimed she repeatedly lied on the mortgage functions.

Marilyn Mosby informed the courts she didn’t make any false statements deliberately and signed the mortgage functions in good religion.

But it was her failure to reveal the debt on her functions that contributed to the mortgage fraud costs.

Prosecutors alleged in the course of the trial that Mosby lied about getting a $5,000 reward from her husband on the time, which helped her get a decrease rate of interest.

The reward is what led to the conviction, the Baltimore Sun reported, as prosecutors traced it again to her account.

Prosecutors needed to show Mosby knowingly made a false assertion that affected the mortgage utility course of, so as to get a conviction.

Having been found guilty of mortgage fraud, Mosby now faces a most jail sentence of 30 years for the one count.
