Gov. Gavin Newsom recalled in leaked footage that a store employee blamed his personal insurance policies to his face as they each witnessed a brazen theft unfold in California.
The video, first shared on X by a reporter with The San Francisco Standard, confirmed a portion of a Zoom assembly with Newsom and different elected California officers.
The governor stated that the alternate got here whereas he was trying out a store and noticed a man “just walking out” of the store with out paying.
“Why aren’t you stopping him,” Newsom stated he requested the worker.

Newsom defined that the store worker stated they stopped pursuing shoplifters “because of the governor.”
“We don’t stop them because of the governor,”’ Newsom said. “The governor lowered the brink and there’s no accountability.”
After blaming Newsom for the crime, the worker allegedly gave Newsom a second glance and realized who she was speaking with.
“And then she seems at me twice, after which she freaks out, calls everybody over. She desires to take a picture,” Newsom recalled to the different elected officers in the course of the Zoom name.
“And I’m like, ‘No, I’m not taking a picture, we’re having a dialog. Where is your supervisor?'” the governor recalled to the elected officials, who were seen laughing.
“Why are you blaming the governor,” Newsom stated.

After the employee attributed the rise in brazen crime to Newsom reducing the “threshold” for serious crimes, the governor pushed back.
“That’s simply not true,” Newsom told the store’s employee. “We have the tenth hardest in America– look it up, nobody provides a d—.”
Following the exchange, Newsom asked why he had to pay for his goods while “everybody” could just “stroll the h— proper out” with out dealing with penalties.

“I used to be like, why am I spending $380 and everybody can stroll the h— proper out,” Newsom said.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Newsom said that retail theft per capita in California is “17.0% decrease than the common amongst states.”
The governor’s office also touted Newsom’s $1.1 billion investment to “battle crime, rent extra police, and enhance public security.”

The location of the store and the date of the incident were not revealed on the Zoom call.
Newsom’s office declined to provide further details on the incident to Fox News Digital.
