Biden vetoes bipartisan bill protecting US EV industry from China

President Biden vetoed a bipartisan decision Wednesday that might have reversed his administration’s determination to waive “Buy America” necessities for taxpayer-funded electrical automobile (EV) charging stations.

The decision, which was authored by Sen. The Senate handed the decision in November by a 50-48 vote with Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Jon Tester, D-Mont.; and Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., becoming a member of Republicans. Then, on Jan. 11, the House handed the bill in a 209-198 vote with two House Democrats, Reps. Jared Golden of Maine and Donald Davis of North Carolina, becoming a member of 207 Republicans who voted in favor.

DOT’s waiver was finalized as a part of Biden administration’s push to each develop EV manufacturing and the community of chargers nationwide wanted to gas zero-emissions autos. Biden has set objectives of establishing an EV charging community of 500,000 chargers alongside U.S. highways and guaranteeing 50% of all new automobile gross sales are electrical by 2030.
