Rishi Sunak has appeared to rule out holding a basic election within the spring.

Answering a query about when it could happen, the prime minister mentioned: “My working assumption is we’ll have a general election in the second half of this year.”

In latest weeks, there was hypothesis that Mr Sunak would possibly name an election in May.

One has to be held by January 2025.
