FIRST ON FOX: Conservative former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers are backing Speaker Mike Johnson’s aggressive stance on border safety with regards to ongoing negotiations over a supplemental spending settlement — calling on Republicans to have “clear resolve” in regards to the disaster.

“While the Biden administration and Left-wing lawmakers continue to purposefully drive chaos and carnage at our southern border, House conservatives have taken critical steps to end it, notably through passage of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act—which continues to collect dust in the Senate,” they are saying.

Homan and Morgan are visiting fellows on the Heritage Foundation, whereas Ries is the director of the group’s Border Security and Immigration Center. They are a part of a coalition that has stated that H.R. 2 must be a part of any supplemental spending deal at the moment being negotiated in Congress.
Their assertion comes as talks are nonetheless ongoing between lawmakers in the Senate and the administration. The administration has requested $14 billion for border funding as a part of the $100 billion-plus bundle, which incorporates cash for Ukraine and Israel. That funding request consists of extra staffing on the border, support to communities accepting arrivals and elimination flights.
But Republicans in each chambers say they need stricter limits on asylum and using humanitarian parole by the administration to cease releases. Senate Republicans have issued their very own proposals, whereas many in the House have stated that H.R. 2 in its entirety must be included.

The former officials say that uniting behind H.R. 2, as well as a separate move by the House Homeland Security Committee to begin impeachment hearings of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, are “imperatives demanded by Americans throughout the nation.”

Democrats in the Senate have ruled out H.R. 2 and similar proposals as a non-starter. Even some reported concessions by the Biden administration, including the establishment of a Title 42-style removal authority, have been met with anger from some liberal Democrats.

The Biden administration, meanwhile, sought to pin some of the blame on Republicans for failing to agree to the funding request as it is.
“Speaker Johnson is constant to dam President Biden’s proposed funding to rent hundreds of latest Border Patrol brokers, rent extra asylum officers and immigration judges, present native communities internet hosting migrants extra grant funding, and make investments in cutting-edge expertise that’s vital to stopping lethal fentanyl from coming into our nation,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said Wednesday
“We have House Republicans which are actually blocking the president’s effort to do one thing. That’s what they’re doing. They’re enjoying political video games. They’re doing political stunts,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday.
The administration has also said negotiations are moving forward.
“Our negotiations with the Senate continued over the vacations, and we proceed to be inspired by the progress being made. And whereas we’re not there but, we consider we’re shifting in the best course,” a senior administration official instructed reporters on Tuesday.

But the former officials dismissed those negotiations in their statement.
“While Biden’s appointees and allies proceed to ‘negotiate’ in the Senate, lawmakers on the Left have confirmed they have no actual intention of ending the report tide of unlawful immigration,” they say. “If conservatives are united behind H.R. 2, the choice between the protection of a safe border and the chaos of limitless unlawful immigration lies solely with White House and their mates in the Senate. The American individuals are watching.”
